Afghan Women’s Community Aid was incorporated in 2024 and evolved from a project started by the Metro Rotary Club of Columbia, MO. It now sponsors the Stitch Initiative Project which itself evolved from Metro’s Revenues for Refugees 2022-2023 District Grant Project. That project was designed to introduce entrepreneurial skills to arriving refugees. Many Afghan women are excellent at sewing, and so Rotarians began helping Afghan refugees sell their sewn products (dresses, bags, coasters, placemats, etc.) in community craft fairs under the trade name of “The Stitch Initiative”. Afghan Women’s Community Aid continues the focus on entrepreneurial skills, sponsoring the Stitch Initiative, the Afghan Bread Company, and other projects, while providing other supports as well. Our board is comprised of both Afghan women and members of Metro Rotary. Rock Bridge Christian Church generously provides us with meeting space. We are grateful for our community partners!
Our community cannot afford to waste talent. We are stronger when every member has an opportunity to develop and contribute their unique talents. You can help! Please watch our events and support our entrepreneurs!
