Announcing AWCA

As our Afghan neighbors began to arrive in Columbia several years ago, Metro Rotary welcomed them with fellowship and support – first through an art therapy project, then through its “Revenues for Refugees” District Simplified Grant, which led to the Stitch Initiative (a collective sewing project) and now to Afghan Women’s Community Aid, a nonprofit dedicated to empowering Afghan women in our community. AWCA is women led, with leadership shared between Metro Rotarians and Afghan women in the community. In just a few years we anticipate it will be entirely Afghan led and we look forward to seeing this resilient group of women thrive in Columbia, MO.
